As of Monday evening, August 24, 2026, there are several significant natural hazards underway worldwide. I also checked space weather separately. I’m distinguishing confirmed current events from situations that are merely being monitored.

🌋 Volcanoes — Etna is the standout

Mount Etna, Sicily — ACTIVE ERUPTION. Etna remains the most important volcanic situation I’m following tonight. Recent activity has included explosive/Strombolian activity, lava and substantial ash emissions. Earlier this month ash disrupted arrivals at Catania Airport, and reporting from Sicily just two days ago describes communities still dealing with significant ash fallout. The latest volcanic reporting continues to classify Etna at an eruption-warning status.

Mount Pelée, Martinique — elevated concern, but NOT erupting. This is important given our continuing watch of the two volcanoes associated with the Edgar Cayce account we’ve discussed. Recent reporting has highlighted increased activity/unrest at Pelée, but I do not find evidence tonight that Pelée has entered an eruption comparable with Etna. That distinction is crucial.

Kīlauea, Hawaii also remains in its prolonged eruptive sequence. Its recent episodes have produced extremely high lava fountains.

🌎 Earthquakes

Earthquake activity remains substantial around the Pacific/Ring-of-Fire region. The USGS real-time system continues to record earthquakes globally, including recent activity around Papua New Guinea and Hawaii.

NASA’s disaster-monitoring program has also been tracking the aftermath of the August 10 Colombia earthquake, with its activation running through August 24.

I am not seeing evidence tonight of a newly confirmed catastrophic M8+ earthquake or associated major Pacific tsunami. That is worth emphasizing because social-media reports often exaggerate routine Ring-of-Fire seismic activity.

🌊 Floods, fires and severe weather

NASA’s Earth-observation disaster system currently shows or recently showed active monitoring for Ohio flooding, the Colombia earthquake, Sri Lanka flooding, and Washington wildfires, among other events.

There are numerous additional regional floods, storms and fires worldwide, but I would be cautious about labeling every one a major global disaster without confirmation. The overall 2026 disaster toll is already substantial: first-half worldwide natural-disaster losses were estimated at roughly $112 billion.

🏭 Man-made disasters

I do not see a newly reported industrial accident tonight on the scale of Fukushima, Beirut, Bhopal or Deepwater Horizon.

However, ongoing wars and attacks on infrastructure remain major human-caused disaster zones, particularly where energy, transportation, water and civilian infrastructure are affected. These can create secondary environmental disasters involving petroleum fires, spills and hazardous-material releases.

I would keep this category separate from natural disasters because casualty and damage information from conflict zones can change rapidly.

☀️ SPACE WEATHER — something is occurring

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued an alert for elevated energetic-electron flux in near-Earth space. Its alert system showed the greater-than-2 MeV electron flux exceeding the 1,000-pfu threshold.

These energetic electrons can matter for satellites and spacecraft electronics. NOAA notes that space-weather disturbances can also affect satellite operations, GPS/navigation, radio communications and—in stronger geomagnetic storms—the electrical grid.

I do not, however, see evidence at this point of an extreme Carrington-class solar storm threatening Earth.

☄️ Asteroids / other space threats

I found no NASA warning of a significant asteroid or comet impact threat to Earth tonight. NASA continues to track near-Earth objects, but routine close approaches should not be confused with an impact threat.

My watch list tonight — August 24

The most unusual combination I would watch closely right now is Etna + Pelée + significant Ring-of-Fire seismic activity + space weather. But there is no scientific evidence that these events are causally connected, and Pelée has not joined Etna in eruption.
